Continuing through the Gospel of Mark, this message examines Jesus’ encounter with the demon-possessed man in Mark 5. After calming the storm on the Sea of Galilee, Jesus arrives in Gentile territory and is immediately met by a man whose life has been devastated by demonic oppression. Living among tombs, isolated from society, unable to be restrained, and consumed by torment, the man represents the destructive power of evil and humanity’s inability to save itself.

The sermon explores the reality of spiritual warfare and the biblical teaching concerning Satan and demons. Satan is not presented as God’s equal or opposite, but as a created being in rebellion against God. His purpose is to oppose God, deceive people, distort truth, and destroy lives. Through the indwelling Holy Spirit, the armor of God, God’s restraining power against evil, and His faithfulness during temptation, Christians are not left defenseless in spiritual warfare. One of the most powerful moments in the story comes after the man’s deliverance. The formerly tormented outcast is found clothed, calm, and in his right mind. While others ask Jesus to leave, the transformed man desires to follow Him. Instead, Jesus sends him home to tell others what God has done. The message concludes by reminding believers that Jesus specializes in restoring those whom the world has written off.
